In een interview met het Egyptische weekblad Al-Ahram op 28/9/2006, zei Kennedy: "My book came out in January 1988. It was strongly attacked by American conservatives who said that the economic recovery of the United States in the 1990s proved the thesis wrong. I would rather say that if they had read my book carefully they would have seen I was talking about the tendency or the dangers of IMPERIAL OVERSTRETCH for America by the year 2010."
